The Siminovitch Prize

Lou & Elinore Siminovitch were a fusion of art & science, and the inspiration behind one of Canada’s most prestigious stage awards.

Content: video, & title design.
Produced for: brand, web & social.

“It’s so amazing that this prize is able to understand that the idea of experimentation— which is so embedded in the origins of Lou’s work as a scientist, but also Elenor’s as a playwright… this spirit of invention is somehow fused together in the prize”

A private and public journey

To truly tell this story we needed to get at the heart of the matter. The library and archives of Canada provided us with a start through microfiche of old newspaper articles. Then a trip to visit the family home to scour old photo albums truly gave us all-access to the impressive personal and public journey for the lives of both Lou and Elenor.

Something that struck us most was how thankful the recipients we talked to were—but it’s easy to see why—this prize contributes so much.

The whole concept that a Laureate (prize winner) selects a Protégé to mentor and receive the prize with them is something so Canadian. Chris Abraham was selected as a Protégé in 2001, then nominated as Laureate 12 years later in 2013. Full circle, and that’s what is so inspiring for us—that platforms like this truly serve to grow the arts in Canada—celebrating exceptional work and inspiring the next generation of artists. Gold.

Anusrée Roy, 2011 protégé

I am ever so grateful for what this prize has done for my career.
